Other than appearing to be hideously expensive, FotoTechnika in Jacksonville appears to offer what some are looking for. I haven't used them yet but I'm going to try them out with a roll of BW. Their proofs are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper but enlargements (8X10 and up) are are produced on 100% cotton fibrebase B&W paper.

You are in for a very pleasant surprise. ...I know that I was greatly impressed by how much difference a simple change of film made..

Almost makes me want to dig out my old b/w stuff...

Pat[/QUOTE]

I did exactly that and dug out this 48 years old Tri-X negative of the family cockerel. This was one of the pix off the second roll of film I took .... (Scanned using a Canon 8600 F)

Gosh, your images are so sharp and have great contrast. I have lots to learn. I really enjoy and admire these old images and film in general. Thanks for sharing and if you have more, post them up.

Good that you appreciate them. They were taken by a simple Braun Paxette 135 leave-shutter camera. You have to adjust the f-stops, shutter speeds, and estimate the distance, all manually. Great German-made camera though!

The next 2 attached were also taken in 1960. It was 15 years after the WWII, and a lot of reconstruction were carried out in Sandakan, British North Borneo. Those RC buildings were relatively new. There was not much traffic around in those days. Those Chinese (Hakka) labourers (2nd Pix), with their broad-brim hats working on the road construction were a regular presence then. They are all part of history now...

You bet I appreciate them. They are great in so many ways....15 years after WW2? good stuff and so well preserved. I was not around in 1960 (born 1965) so I appreciate them all the more. Have you got some others?

Hi jgredline -- thanks for your viewing/comments. I am still doing my scanning of the negatives of pix taken in the 50's and 60's and will post more later. Of course what I have put up were a few with the negatives still in reasonably good conditions. Will have to learn more on how to PS those with scratches and other damages due to the passage of half a century or so.....wish I were 43 again!

have you tried 3200 iso?

I see lots of people discussing both the qualities of Tri-X and home processing, so here goes.

Who else shoots 3200 ISO?

See the attached, Which is how I did night shots before my *istD and 3200 SIO digital.

about 30 minute development time at 21C from memory. Shot in about 1985

Lowell,
I saw that image before and was as equally impressed as I am now. It is amazing what you have done. Great shot!

Javier, I have seen quite a lot of dark room equipment on Craigs List recently. Might be worth a look if you are thinking of trying your own D&P. This has been an interesting thread, thanks for starting it.
