k1000 (chinese production) - symbols in viewfinder.

Just received my first K1000 from ebay. It's from 5th production run s/n 5506511 - assembled in China.

In viewfinder are visible some strange symbols, hieroglyphs or something alike. They are visible with and without lenses. Focusing screen is clean. When looking through mirror - symbols are not visible.

Has someone faced the same feature? What are the symbols? Is it a sort of manufacturing defect or some special feature from pentax?

The body is fully functional.

Maybe its a hidden message! Or a number of other possibilities! Can you take a photo of them?

j/k I would be curious to see a pic of them too.

Something like that. I could capture only upper part of drawing (?). In the lower part something like stork.

That's weird, is it in the prism or the mirror? Is it a NOS camera? Perhaps some sticker that should have been removed remained at its place.

It's not on the mirror, nor focusing screen. No stickers on viewfinder. What is NOS?

New Old Stock.

To me it looks like a sort of quality sticker that sometimes is applied on mirror surfaces and are supposed to be removed BEFORE assembly. I assume if it's not on the mirror or on the focusing screen the symbols are on some mirror inside the prism.

It's a camera what was built by Pentax for about 30 years straight or so.
And I would hazard to guess that it would have been their number one selling model on number sold in it's lifetime. (I haven't looked that up)

I saw fungus on many lenses. It's exactly not fungus. Too sharp, too structured for fungus.

I have had a k1000 with very similar patterns and I assumed it was fungus (but it is true it does not look like the one on lenses)...

I just found this

and this:

That was my first thought - mold or fungus. The pentaprism has a roof-like peak on it. My guess is the fungus is growing on the peak and etched through the silvered coating.
