K1000 - film advance lever clicking, film wont budge.

Hi everyone,

I apologise if this is not the right place to be posting this, and for my poor use of terminology.

I've recently come into possession of a K1000. It's been working fine, but on a few rolls of film it has gotten stuck.

These particular rolls are quite sticky you could say and take some force to wind in-between shots.

They will then reach a point where they seem to be too hard to advance for the camera, and the wind lever will just click over, as if the gears do not have enough traction.

That is to say I am able to cock the shutter but the film will not advance.

Does anyone know if this is a common problem, and what causes it?

Is it easily fixed?

Thanks for reading.

You can download a version of the service manual for the K1000 here:

http://www.pentax-manuals.com/markroberts/k1000_man.pdf

The section on winding mechanism is at the end of the document. It says if the spring-type clutch is defective you have to replace the entire wind shaft assembly.

One question I'll start with. Are you sure you loaded the film correctly?

Have you come to the end of the roll?

If it’s not a loading issue, then it could be the film advance lever.

I had a similar issue with a KX and Eric had to replace the film advance leaver system.

I would email Eric.
