Jeepers!

I better keep my gold plated SV under wraps!
Else, the camera and I might get 'egged'!

My understanding about the gold plated cameras, and other 'Special Editions', is the Manufacturer produced them to "celebrate" some particular MileStone.
For Instance:
50th year in business
1,000,000th unit in production
25th anniversary of a favorite camera model
"Camera Of The Year" award

And the public, me included, is willing to buy and keep them as rare-ish "Collectables".

The fact that they were packaged with a pair of white gloves, lest one blemish it's opulence with a fingerprint, pretty much implied these were to be squirreled away as collectables rather than used as precision tools.
You don't wear white gloves when you use your LX . . .

If the bling'ed LX is a little rich for your blood, you could always just apply some abuse to a K1000...

This is what it looks like with the chrome stripped off.

I bet all of those Gold Pentax LX's have sticky mirror syndrome by now.

I suppose we could ask Eric H if he's ever done a CLA on one...

I bet anyone that has a LX Gold has never shot a roll of film through the camera!

These are display items and will never get used.

One of my LXs was covered in dark blue leather by the previous owner. Really looks pretty good, not at all garish. I should get some leather to match to re-cover the winder. And yes, I do use the camera!
