Battery life of Pentax ME-F?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone knows how long a set of batteries will last in a Pentax ME-F? Bought one yesterday and put in fresh batteries, left it with the AF function "on" overnight with an A series lens attached. This morning the metering lights and focus indicator will not light up., nor will it drive the AF lens.

Could it really have eaten up the batteries overnight, or have the electronics simply died?

Edit: The metering and AF function worked ok yesterday.

They should not go dead overnight. You better hope they were old and almost deleted batteries you purchased or you have problems.

Nah, I bought the batteries new like two months ago, and only unpacked them at the store yesterday. So if nothing else this particular ME-F eats batteries at an unnatural rate. Also it turns out that the shutter sticks occasionally, so that it fires when I wind the film.

Thanks Rim! Now to go and try to get my money back for a 30 year old camera... ^^

Not much in the manual on battery life, but silver oxide batteries are recommended and alkaline are not.

Thanks gofour, but it seems that there's something deeper wrong with the camera's electronics. Sometimes the meter runs, sometimes it doesn't. The AF seems to have died altogether. After talking to the guy at the store I've decided to try and repair it though. I've created a thread on that project here.

Most probably there is a short circuit in the bottom
Take the cover out and check if any of the wires is "grounding" (insulation gone) due to corrosion
I saw that on a ME a while back

Alright, I'll check that out when I replace the bottom plate. Thanks Titrisol!
