Oh you lucky dog. I've been looking for a cheap 24 for ages. See, you lose some and you win some.
Its the second lens I ever lost....ummm...killed. The other is still in a rock crevice near Ajo Arizona collecting lizard poop.....lol.
No Bibles or cell phones lost ever. Actually I did have a brand new bible stolen about 10 years ago from a campsite in Show Low Az. Never could figure that one out....it was still in the box with my name in Gold Guilding on the cover ! Oh well.....that was back when I still believed in God. I don't miss it anymore either but will miss the lens for a while for sure.
I DO seem to get very very lucky at yardsales for cameras and lenses....no shortage that's for sure !

As part of your repentance, maybe you could consider replacing the K1000 with a 6x7. However, if the 6x7 falls off your car you'll be cited for destruction of public property (but the camera and film should still be intact).

Another vote for the KM. You'll be right at home with it, and I prefer the center-needle metering over the match-needle metering on the K2. Plus, the KM fits your budget.

My favorite body is my old K1000 (I have other K1000s too), but my most-used bodies are my MX and K2 DMD (multiple K2 DMDs too).

KX a better choice than the K1000

Years ago a friend of mine, he was a teacher, set the school's Nikon F something (it was a film camera) on the roof of his car while he loaded something, and forgot to load the camera. Ooogh!

Should your current deal fall through, you'd probably like the KX. I recently got one, recent CLA, with lovely new bright blue leather! Beautiful camera!. It has shutter and aperture visible in the VF,which is very good, a battery check button, meter switch, shutter release lock, and depth of field preview and mirror lockup. About the only lacking features would be interchangeable screens and a winder. Much, much nicer than the K1000. And due to the steady demand for the K1000 by film students the KX, if you can find one, is often cheaper. My KX body was about $100. I guess that the film teachers don't know of other alternatives.
