Blurry View thru Viewfinder on my MZ-S

Like the title says.

My Pentax MZ-S produces beautifully focused pictures.

The problem is that what I see in my viewfinder is very blurry regardless of how much I adjust the diopter. I can bring the viewfinder items like brackets and center spot into clear focus but not the image I am focusing on.

I will probably send this off to Eric for his attention but thought I would check here to see if anyone has any ideas regarding possible cause. If there is something simple that I can check I may try that first.

Have you inspected the mirror? Is it dirty? It may even be misaligned but of course there is no way for you to check that.

The focus screen might be out of position. Re-seating it is a pretty trivial task and it's worth giving a try before you send it off.

This thread contains instructions for replacing the screen, but the images are equally useful for seeing how the screen bracket works. It releases with a little latch in the front and drops down, then you can re-seat the screen. and click it back into place. While you are in there, you can blow out any dust that is above the screen. Make sure to wear nitrile or rubber gloves while performing the procedure or you risk smudging the screen.

Thanks, that is actually a good idea dcshooter. I have done a few Katzeyes in my day but this did not even cross my mind.

Ok, after fiddling around it does seem better but is still a little blurry. But it's good enough now for me to continue working with it for awhile.

BTW - Your DIY article is very well done.

Can't take credit for one! It was done by PF member Zivelot.
