I've used the battery cover from a Nikon EM (which are cheap as chips these days.)

Top man,thanks, have just ordered one, 8 delivered, used but fine - let's hope so when it arrives! In the pic it also has the battery holder tube as per the MX/K2

Update: no it doesn't fit. The thread size and metal part length are different, and the female bit is now broken off my baseplate

Should have gone for this one:

but it sounds as though you now need a new base plate as well !

Same guy but looks at least as bad as the original. Am going to try to soak it in Coke and think about painting the inside with the stuff for fixing the heaters on rear car windows. Should be dropping by Harrow Technical next week so I'm hoping they can re-solder the female bit to the baseplate. I wonder if "bugger" will make it past the naughty words filter.
