I'm insane

I went into the local camera store, as I needed a lens cap. While there I look through their used stuff. There it was: a KX in beautiful shape, 50/1.7 lens, case, and manual in truly good shape. All it was missing is the neck strap - the lens cap had a keeper too, something I've never had before. And it so happens I have an extra Pentax strap at home, just sitting there doing nothing.

But that's not why I'm insane. Here's why: I left the manual at the store and went next door to CVS to do some shopping. The store called my wife to tell her I'd bought a camera and left the manual.

I learnt that when I ran back to the store to pick up the manual. Oh, and the wife's fine with it.

That's right, I bought me a KX today.

That's not Insane, That's called Lucky Enough to tell the tale after your wife found out about the camera

Have fun with it.

There is nothing insane about it. Quite logical in fact. You had this perfectly good Pentax neck strap at home and needed a camera to attach to it.

thanks guys... OK so how's this: I play with my Pentaxes and their dog, Mr. Fuji:

Kay-dee, who is a K100D and she's wearing a 70mm 2.4 Limited.
Alfie, who is a ZX-10, he's a lightweight autofocus specialist. He's wearing a 43mm 1.9 Limited.
Mr. Program, he's the robot. He's a Program Plus and he has on a Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 Macro.
KX, she's a KX and she brings real class to the whole team. She's got her SMC-M 50mm 1.7 on.
Spottie, he's the old timer, a SP1000 Spotmatic. He's got a Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 on.

The reason the last one looks strange is that Mr. Program, who's the robot, has the power to send out mind-rays through the atmosphere.

that little photographic story was quite amusing and made my day, I especially like 'Spottie' the old timer.

Thanks for the support folks.

Now I'm able to tell all: the true insanity is that I left the M 35mm lens that came with, unbought.

See, that's where you went wrong. My husband no longer lets me buy lens caps, or go into pawn shops. I also think that eBay has been blocked.

(just kidding - he is a dutiful enabler even if he is a bit of a snob.)

I had a ZX-10 back in the day and could never understand why the pictures were always so soft compared to ones I took with my K-1000. It never even occurred to my little teenage brain that maybe it was because it had a terrible, terrible lens strapped to the front. It should be very nice with the 43/1.9. It was lost in a terrible case tripod meets asphalt and I think about picking another one up super cheap but it just doesn't fit a niche anymore.

Hope to have first photos soon - I'm caught in the no man's land of 3-4 frames left on the roll, so it's not worth bringing to work (especially since I have most of a roll in the refoamed Fuji with the new lens on it...) but Soon. Have had the Tamron 90mm on it as well as the 50/1.7.

In my estimation this is one beautiful camera.

Hey, if you see a good deal...go for it

It's funny how "just looking" can get you into so much trouble

There's no rule that says you can only have one camera at work. I usually have three and sometimes four.

True enough, only my bag and its weight limits me... However, I finished both rolls yesterday, the first through the KX and the first to test my re-sealing job on the ST605...

So how large a sachel do you carry!?

Not very large at all, actually. I'm not big on dividers so I can fit quite a bit into it.

Currently it holds:

K100D
Spotmatic ESII
AF200T flash
S-M-C Takumar 28/3.5
SMC Takumar 50/1.4
S-M-C Takumar 105/2.8
S-M-C Takumar 135/3.5
Super Takumar 200/4 (and metal hood)
Extension tubes

And some various small odds and ends stuffed here and there. I just use it to make a general move from A to B and almost never use it for walking-around type shooting. That's what God made pants pockets for.

LOL there ya go - the reason why I buy shorts with the big cargo pockets and all.

Actually, I recently had to change my work bag from a backpack to a shoulder bag, which is far less handy for the cameras. I'd turned an ordinary backpack into a bag that would carry a couple of cameras - especially if one was a folding one, three - and an extra lens or so, together with work essentials (book to read on the train, blackberry, cell phone, train ticket, ID badge...) I simply took out the stuffing from an old camera bag and put it in the backpack. Fits nicely, cushions well (I also took out all but 1 divider).
