Yes, KR-5 Super2 will operate at all speeds 1 sec to 1/2000th without batteries.
The batteries provide a "match-the-led" metering with 3 leds +<0>-.
The camera has an iso dial but no EV compensation
I have the MX and the Ricoh on my desk here. The viewfinder size difference is hardly noticable, even with both cameras in hand.
However the MX has a brighter viewfinder.
I got this Ricoh about 20 years ago in a pawn shop in Melbourne and it has done a lot of miles and rolls.
