Those who think Top Plate Button / e-Dial ISO manipulation is finicky ought to run a roll through a K2.

I always struggled to set film speed on my K2 and K2DMD bodies, even after learning the knack.
The concentric controls make it easy to inadvertently change exposure compensation setting as well.

Nikkormat and Olympus OM-series SLRs placed shutter speed control on a ring around the lens mount.
I never liked this design, though it's not nearly as bad as the Pentax K2/K2DMD arrangement.

Your K1000 was one I thought of when I got the brochure.Checked the photo,no self timer lever.Agreed,Has to be an early prototype.

Yes,And I was torn between a tiny Olympus and the MX.Got the MX,then got a half case to bulk it up a bit.

It is a PITA to change ISO,takes some fiddlin to get used to.Makes you wonder what those engineers were thinking
with that design.

You`re right of course. Back then I always knew it to be true but I still didn`t like it. Myself, I still prefer a little larger and weightier camera/lens combo compared to many of the models that got too light and flimsy feeling to hold steady. I understand though the smaller units seemed to be desired by the largest part of the camera market and that`s how money is made. The OM really was a milestone model and I have a couple in my assortment.

Though I own several 'M' bodies I use a KX principally, because it best fits my hands and balances my existing lenses. My brother got an OM around the time I was given my first KX and to this day he sings its praises.

Yep. I just won a very nice black K2 to pretty much satisfy my wants but it will need Eric's touch.
