Pentax K1000 Version

I recently received a K1000 as a part of lot of equipment and the faux leather was peeling. I ordered a replacement and to my surprise it doesn't fit (the leather is fine). There's a metal circle of some sort to the left of the mount. No markings of any sort. So for those who are knowledgeable, what is this? Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1456369336.911901.jpg

Somebody made a "ruggedized" version of a few different cameras. It involved replacing the standard leather with a slightly thicker leather with a different pattern and charging more for the camera. Maybe that disc is from that scenario. The disc has no purpose and you can remove it.

Those little metal discs are quite common and usually cover an access hole in the body, can't quite imagine why there would be a hole there though. It's only self adhesive so prise it off, if there is a hole then stick it back on, you can't cause any damage.

The K1000 was made in various countries and as far as I know these were not officialy viewed as different versions. There are various different markings i.e. Made in Japan or Made in Hong Kong etc.
Usually the early ones had a metal top plate with the Asahi Logo stamped into it the later plastic ones didn't have the logo but as far as I know the bodies were all the same size so I would expect the leather to be interchangeable, but I could be wrong.

Did you get the leather from cameraleather.com? I've had mixed results with their products - nice quality but hit-and-miss regarding proper fit.

I did. I'm still cleaning off the old glue but the pieces look like a match to the old ones (but also look tiny, if that makes sense)
