For images you plan to digitize, for whatever heretical reason, this is now better done in Photoshop (or free-as-in-beer GIMP), where colour correcting can be applied selectively (e.g. to shadows only), and to the exact degree needed. And, unlike the filter method, at no detriment to IQ.

If a seagull gets your filter with a PGM, you unscrew it and trash can.

I've had a sea gull burn a hole in a soft top and get to the aluminium on a Mx-5 hood (bonnet).

Some of us are using single coated lenses for the adaptive compression (and pastel colours) on film.
Way to late to try it after you take a digital shot...

I don't even know what that is. And if you can't get pastel colours (or any colours you want) in digital, you're doing it wrong.

A sea gull is a sea bird, it's droppings can be well corrosive, soft top material vehicle paint...
Never tried it with lens coatings...

If you are using film you get the lens transfer function unless you add CC filters.

A uncoated lens, a single coated lens and a multi coated lens have different transfer functions.

If you try an old auto Takumar and a new SMC or later lens the signature and contrast will be different even with a digital sensor, lots of digital people shoot old lenses for the compression they provide in high contrast scenes because if you burn highlights they are burnt.

This is a film sub forum many people don't do scanning!
