Prism Desilvering or something else?

I received my new/old Spotmatic II and there's this weird thing in the viewfinder. Is that what they call desilvering?

thanks for your time.

It could be prism desilvering. Most examples I've seen show as a vertical line in the viewfinder. Could it be bits of the foam bumper stuck on the mirror? What do you see looking through the mirror box?

Negative, both mirror and focus screen look good. The mirror has little desilvering on the edges but nothing that can be seen throu the viewfinder.

Classic desilvering. It's occurring right along one of the prism corners, as it often does, hence the straight line.

If it's vertical, it's at the peak of the prism. This one looks like it's right along the front edge.

I'll just have to go along with it, until I find a damaged donor camera.

It is desilvering that sometimes happens along the front of the prism where it seats into the frame that holds the meter needle and the focusing screen.

Yes, that's de-silvering, sad to say.

Oddly enough, it's even more common in the K1000 - where they used a foam pad between the prism and the top cover. When the foam degrades it eats into the silvering. In the K1000, it's most often a vertical line down the prism's central divider.

In the Spotmatics, you get a horizontal line.

Since it won't affect the image quality in any ways, I'm not sad. I'd be sad if the shutter curtain was full of holes
