SV worth repairing?

I have my dad's Pentax SV that has some issues: (1) shutter that sticks, and (2) badly scratched mirror. It was an old camera he didn't use 35 years ago and I didn't value it enough to treat it well. Plus, I'm pretty sure I tried to take it apart when I was a kid. Cosmetically, it's not too bad. Is it even possible to repair to working shape?

Yes, I had mine CLA'd by Eric in 2012 for $65, it shoots like a new camera now.

The SV is a great camera to use, it is my favorite pre-Spotmatic Pentax to shutterbug about with.
IMBO, I think a SV is worth 'saving'.

If your camera is in really rough condition, you might keep it as a "parts" camera, and pick up another SV that is in better shape.

Unlike most of the cameras today, the SV will be around long into the future. All it needs is some respect and maintenance. If you also have a sentimental attachment, a repair will reward you with the pleasure of use of this classic.

You could find another one for the price of an overhaul, but many of them will also have sticky shutters with their fifty year old grease. After a CLA it should be good till about 2066. Seems a small cost to carry an SV.
