Any coincidence Ferania will finally have the kinks worked out in their production by then.... More E-6 process films might resurrect some mothballed equipment. In my area I have come across at least 2 "near new" professional developing systems sold for scrap...

Ektachrome and Kodachrome were my preferred films. Pics I took back in 1968 with my Spotmatic still have great colours whereas other films I tried later have faded.

I'd like to try some Ektachrome in my PZ-1.

I have an old Nikon LS-1000 SCSI scanner that will take slides. I use it with VueScan and Win 10.

I think this is great news, though I've used very little slide film due to the price and not having a good light meter until recently to be able to use it in my older cameras. I liked the warmer tones of the Kodak slide films but never got around to trying them before they were discontinued. I imagine I will try some when it becomes available but I really hope it's a fair bit cheaper than Fuji's offerings.

How does the Kodachrome developing process differ from E6?

E6 is 'one' development step like mono transparency, Kodachrome is three separate developments or could be done like that at home!

Please note quotes on one.

Back in Kodachrome's heyday (1970's & 80's) you could only have the film processed by either Kodak or Kodak approved specialty labs. You would shoot the film then pop it into a prepaid mailer and off it went to NJ. (That was the closest to me in Vancouver) There were others in Switzerland if I remember correctly. Special training, chemicals and h/w were required, so home processing was not really an option like E6.

There's a process to do it now...

Sodachrome
Kodachrome was stopped because no one was using it ie the film coater run was going off before it was sold.
It was killed by E6 ease of processing.

As film usage in general has been growing since 2010, I think Kodak realized that they would initially have no 35mm slide/transparency competition with higher ISOs as Fujichrome Velvia and Provia are only available in 50 and 100 ISO. But like Kodachrome, Velvia users are passionately loyal to its qualities.

As much as I like Velvia, I would switch to Kodachrome if it ever returned, but as mentioned above, the process is too complicated and expensive. Back in the 80ʻs when I shot it professionally, I found a huge difference in quality depending on the lab that did the K-14 processing. My last favorite lab was A&I in LA.

I loved Ektachrome, especially the Ektachrome 400 that I often pushed to 1600 for concert photos in the 70's and 80's. My 35mm cameras await the new Ektachrome.

It's a good sign and we're all excited, but how many of us will buy more than a roll or two, or none at all?
