Pentax 67 Focusing Screen 61/60 vs 81/80?

Hello!

Did anyone ever compare the different Pentax 67II focus screens? There are the normal 61/60 versions and brighter 81/80 versions?
I can pick up a BA-81 version (currently have the standard BA-61) for 150$ but I do not know if it is worth it.

Welcome to the forum!

I've got the standard 67II BA-61 screen as well as the BA-81, BG-60, BG-80 and the BB-61.

I would stick to the regular 6x screens, unless you are using macro lenses, rear converters or long telephoto lenses. If you are then it's a good idea to have one of the brighter 8x screens as an option, they do make a difference in low light shooting.

I put the BH-81 in my 6x7 and it works just fine and I like the grid a lot. I don't worry about exposure with it because I use the folding hood and either shoot with the Sunny 16 rule or a one-degree spot meter.

How much brighter are the 8x versions in normal shootings conditions when using the 75mm 2.8, 105mm 2.4 and 90mm 2.8 lenses?

I've only used the 8x versions with macro & telephoto lenses with extension tubes or rear converters attached. The only time I've used an 8x screen with one of those lenses was also with a close-up filter.
