Feliz Navidad.
I would like to share the gift I am giving my Dad this evening for Christmas. I had it printed in a 24 x 36 matt finish and put into a nice oak frame. My wife shot this with the traveling K1000 loaded with Tri-x 400 and I wish the clutter was not there. I scanned this to 2400dpi and the full size print looks much better...

Javier - wowsa, those are some bright colors! Nice series, I think the first one is my favorite.

I'm in a bit of trouble. All my newest lenses are other than Takumar, and I don't have a Spotmatic to use until I get my ES II back from Eric. So, nothing Pentax in the chain...

So, here's a photo taken using a Yash Electro-X, a TX mount Soligor 105/2.8, and a grainy Kodak BW400CN. I'd love to compare the Soligor to the equivalent Tak!

Here is another from this Kodak HIGH DEF 400. I am not liking the results in color. It seems overly saturated to me.It seems to covert well to black and white. Opinions please?

Javier, yes, I tried the film also and thought it a bit carricaturish. You can try desaturating a bit. And I agree, the high contrast and saturation does give nifty b&w results.

Are these drug store scans?

Yes. The desat ones do look better to me, but nothing like the black and white.

this is a great thread, it makes me want to run out and shoot film right now

Here's a picture from a b&w photography class I took, of my brother chopping onions:

(some of that grain might be dust when I scanned though!)

I wonder whether a tweak of the levels could improve the contrast in that image?

Hmmm, I can't seem to improve it much in PS... it's difficult to draw out more detail from the onions and shadows. I assume I either developed it too long or it was underexposed?

You can certainly improve the distribution of tone. Open it in PS and add a Levels adjustment layer, then pull the right slider over to the foot of the main hump. You'll see quite a bit more detail in some of the shadow areas, and the whole picture sparkles more. Be careful you don't go too far - you'll burn out your highlights pretty quickly.

I didn't write down the film, though most of film I used during this time were over the counter generic 400-800ISO.
