Just bought a Pentax again to relive my youth, first bought and used an Mx back in 1981, just managed to grab this with original boxes

Mx body and original box and instructions

40mm with original box and lens case

135mm with original box

soft case

and I still have a winder upstairs in the loft, very happy indeed

Nice looking. I have considered an MX but I already have 8 film bodies so hard to justify it.

That looks a very good find. You may want to check the seals on the door and the bumper for the mirror before using. My MX bought in 1977 is still going strong, but with new seals.

Very nice! You don't see many of those boxes these days.

Nice kit! I would recommend a CLA. It would perserve the kit for many years and should give lots of fun!

Absolutely. I bought all the foam to redo my seals about 9 years ago, but ended up sending it out. You really want that CLA professionally done.

Loved the MX. One of mine was stolen late in the product cycle, and my replacement insurance could not find another. I ended up with an LX.

Nice one!

I very recently acquired a used MX body - found in a junk shop in Belgium for €35, including some accessories and a Soligor 35-70mm zoom. But I already have a Pentax M 50mm f/1.4 and a 28mm f/2.8, so I'm looking forwards to using them again (I first got an MX in about 1978)

But first I have to replace the light seals, and the sponge the mirror bounces off?

I too have recently caught the MX bug. Bought a cheapy off the bay and have sent it off to Eric. Has some issues but hopefully all fixable. Have also acquired the winder, M50 1.7; M 135 3.5; have copy of the M 40 2.8 that DCShooter refinished and CLA'd a couple of years ago. Also have a Komine built 70-250 that goes with the period.

As the MX works more or less like the spottie I used for several years I am looking forward to putting the occasional roll through this body. It is interesting to note the number of people returning to the film bodies. This seems more than just a hipster trend.

Are you a black and white film shooter or will you be shooting colour film?

Congrats, the MX is awesome. I still remember reading Herb Keppler's ME and MX review in the December 1975 issue (I think) of Modern Photography... I was in high school and I wanted one so badly, but it was well beyond my budget. It wasn't until 1984 that I finally purchased an ME Super, then finally a well-used black MX in 2001. Those cameras are still the film SLRs I reach for when I need to get the job done for sure.

Love those boxes... may sound weird, but if I had them, I'd stick them in a display along with other camera trinkets, and make sure the glass is UV coated. (while happily shooting the camera).

How's that 40/2.8?

I have an MX coming, but with a Pentax-M SMC 28/3.5, which was a bonus because I didn't already have a wide, I already have a Pentax-M 50/1.4, Rokinon 85/1.4 and a Tamron SP 90/2.8 1:1 Lifesize Macro. But a 40/2.8 looks pleasantly compact for the already compact body for street carry.
