EV compensation is most definitely NOT available on that camera
I stand corrected! I'd got it into my head that the later P30 models had the same feature set as the P50, just with the dial rather than the screen.

Alas, no. I owned a P50 once, but it had been loved to death; half the LCD screen was cracked and impossible to read, and the arrows which marked which button sent the shutter speed which way had rubbed off through overuse.

Still, it made a Pentaxian out of me. I was sure I'd kept the A50/1.7 from the body when I foolishly gave it away, but it disappeared in a move and I cannot for the life of me remember what I did with it.

Another advantage of the Pentax P3N: No LCD screen!

It's the "killer" feature missing on too many Pentax autoexposure models, most notably the M-series, and even the LX.
For this feature alone - along with DOF preview - it's worth buying this model. Try one. I promise it will grow on you.

AE Lock is even missing on the A-series bodies...go figure. It is one of those features that gets frequent use for landscape shooting and other situations where gray card metering is in order and is one of the things I like about my Ricoh XR7.

Substitute metering using AE lock combines the control of manual exposure with the speed of autoexposure.

I was always under the impression that once you pressed it, it held for 10 seconds or 30 seconds or whatever, but my P3 is currently demanding that it be held down until the shot is taken. Can someone else who currently shoots with one clarify, please?

I just tried my P30n and got about 12 seconds with the display still on after releasing the button.
