Pentax k1000 lightmeter repair problems

I recently bought a Pentax k1000, the lightmeter was not working...tried changing batteries and so on. So I went and unscrewed the terminal itself, the tiny black cable that connects to it rotted out, my problem is that if I trim back the cable it wont be long enough to connect to the terminal, because this fix has been done on this camera before.
My question is, is there a way to extend that cable? Or am I doomed?

I don't know about this situation in particular, but in general, if it's just regular wire, you should be able to replace or fix it by soldering on a longer length of wire.
