Hey,

The FA-2 eye-level finder for the LX seem to be scarce and expensive. But why pay more for the finder than the camera? There are two for sale now on eBay, the most expensive is at $828. Wow.

If you do a search for completed listings you will find that no-one does

SLRs looked better before manufacturers added the hot shoe. I never use shoe-mount flash anyway.
When I had my Pentax LX I looked for an FA-2 but wasn't interested enough to spend that kind of money.

I agree, it looks really nice without the shoe. Unfortunately the FA-2 lacks the judas window.

When new, the FA-2 was the cheapest alternative of all eye-level finders for the LX. About 25% lower than FA-1. The FA-2 costed apprx 195USD in Norway in 1986, adjusted for inflation.

Never noticed that; I guess I never looked close enough. Now I'm glad I never got one.

I reviewed that in the accessories section here -> Pentax LX FA-2 review

I believe the Pentax LX maybe the last production SLR with an unobstructed viewfinder with exception of the Voigtlander Bessaflex TM which was a very limited specialty item.

I assume it's a combination of:

1) Nobody bought them back in the day, because then you couldn't use your flash mounted on the camera
2) Higher demand now because people think it makes their camera look extra cool
