You either have a K 50/1.2 or an A 50/1.2 - there was no 50/1.2 in the M series.

Good point - if I had a nickel for every M50/2 listed as a "1.2" on ebay...

You are correct. It's a K - I do that with that lens a lot likely because I find it so much like the M-50/1.4 I had first and for many years, which its very similar to obviously, though certainly larger. Actually for that matter now that I think about it, I've a K 24/2.8 as well which seems even more like an M series.... it's tiny.

Interestingly, there was no 24mm in the M series either - the K24/2.8 was held over instead.

I love my 67 with the 105mm, but the mz-L with a 40mm xs makes film photography so accessible. its the camera combo i bring most of the time.

Yes, that's what I meant. Likely already fit the bill for their M lineup intentions, seeing as it is so compact.

They actually carried over quite a number of K lenses into the M era in the USA catalog.

The MX manual lists 12 SMC primes (mostly ultra-wide and wide, plus K50/1.2 and K200/2.5), two K specialty lenses, the two reflexes and two K zooms. The MX manual shows 18 M primes, 7 M zooms and 2 M Macros.

The early M lenses manual actually has 18 K-Series primes and only 8 M primes. I didn't count the others, but there was no overlap. The mid M lens manual continues most of those K lenses, but a complete complement of M's.

I suspect much of that was a matter of running down inventory, and Japan may have been very different.

The K24/2.8 was released during the "M" series years to replace the K24/3.5, but was was identified as a "K" lens most likely due to the 52mm filter thread.

An easy choice. A K1000 SE in brown leatherette. A totally practical camera, wondrous shutter sound and by far the most beautiful camera made. But which lens? I'd choose the K 55mm f1.8 for versatility but am enjoying experimenting with the K 105mm f2.8.

Been thinking about this as my Pentax collection needs a diet. LX would be first choice except I don't really trust them. It would come down to the most reliable so for me it is a contest between the KX and MX. In the end I vote MX because I have the winder for it and I like the viewfinder better. I will go with the M50 1.7 as my lens.

Ah, but then there's the rare and magical moments when a 50/f1.2 is listed as a 50/f2 and priced accordingly - we can dream

I picked up mine for $100 Canadian along with an ME Super. The camera is in need of a CLA, but I'm not complaining.

No, I can see why not!

I have the Rikenon P (Tomioka?) 55/1.2, so a 50/1.2 K would be functionally redundant in my collection, but if I ever stumble across a 50/1.2 A at that price I think my K-1 would thank me. Now that I actually have a 1.2 in my collection, I can afford to bide my time.

"I have a particular set of skills" - and in my case, I knew from the blurry, small photo that it was the K50/1.2 based on its relative size to the camera (it was mounted on the ME Super). I think the seller knew the camera was dead, but I obviously did not care at all.

Craigslist has been good to me - I also got my very nice FA20-35/4 locally for $350 (if memory serves) many years ago. That seller knew it was a good lens, but wasn't pricing it quite to where it might have been priced.
