Pentax on TV

This week's episode of White Gold on the BBC in the UK featured a Pentax film SLR. It is a comedy about double glazing salesmen in the 1980s.

The ubiquitous vet "Dr Chris" (Aussies will know who I'm talking about) taking a picture of a lost pet rabbit in an episode of Bondi Vet some years ago.

Interesting to see the Pentax bodies in shows like that.

On the recent Price is Right video that has been going viral lately (the Plinko dude), a K-70 was the initial item on which they had to bid.

It was early in the "Sarah Jane Smith" run and the writers remembered she was supposed to be a reporter...

Not just Time Lords and their off-siders. I've posted this one before too. From an ABC (Australia) program which covered the possibility of a habitable planet orbiting Proxima B. The atmosphere was presumed to have a reddish cast (because Proxima B is a cool red star) and all the Proxima B-ians were at the beach - in this case, with a K1000. I presume they have not made contact yet because they are a few decades behind technologically.

But, seriously, I wonder who it was who thought that a Pentax K1000 would be a good choice for a spoof piece about another solar system? Or was she just an extra who was told to bring along a camera if she had one? It was one more Pentax than one would see in the wild on an average day anyway.

The Night Stalker Movie 1972

Carl Kolchak used a Pentax in the first movie. I just saw it on Youtube, but the video was degraded enough you couldn't read the Pentax name. It is definitely a Pentax body seen in the first 7-8 minutes.

In various promotional photos for the 1976-77 Norman Lear CBS sitcom All's Fair
Bernadette Peters photographer character is shown holding a Pentax KM camera.

TV film from 2012 called "We'll take Manhattan", depicting the relationship between photographer David Bailey and model Jean Shrimpton. In the film, Bailey's employers wanted him to shoot medium format but Bailey preferred his Pentax for his street shots.

Trying to remember the episode, but at some point early-ish in Midsomer Murders one of the crime scene photographers is using a Pentax 67. It's mostly notable as anyone familiar with the camera will immediately be able to tell that the extra was told to just pretend to take photos — there's a silence to the shutter that even Leica users would envy.

Not really mine either, but S3 is a good choice. Its 1960 release date corresponds to the start of Bailey's contract with Vogue which launched his career.

Edit: I found another still from the movie and it looks to be an S3 with Auto Takumar 55/1.8 attached. Bailey apparently used a number of Pentax camera models before shifting to Olympus in the early 1970s.
