Downsizing

Tell me I'm not alone in this. Have you ever wanted a specific item but couldn't find the right one, in the right condition, for the right price? Then all of a sudden, you find it, but it's bundled with a bunch of other stuff that you just don't want or need. Well, I just went through my display case and rounded up a bunch of that extra stuff and listed it all on eBay. I had SEVEN! lenses that I was just using as body caps. I also culled one of my Super Programs and an ME II winder. Now I will have the room and the money I need for the new stuff that I bought yesterday.

I started today. One body and one lens leave in the AM. Just need to make some room for the future.

Has the second residence been chosen yet?

I am trying to "complete" the collection with fewer than 20 bodies and fewer than 25 lenses. That will include my Mamiya RB 67 ProS but NOT the EOS digital gear. I'm not too bad on accessories. Just a couple of sets of the necessary contrast filters for B&W, two AF280Ts, one Motor Drive A, one Winder ME II, and a couple of teleconverters. I don't count things like lens pouches and camera cases.

I sold off a couple of surplus cameras and lenses earlier this year, when I started feeling like my collection was getting out of control, leaving me with four Pentax bodies and about 14 lenses, two flashes and three tripods, plus four Panasonic Lumix cameras--and that's just the digital stuff. I've also got four Minolta SLR bodies and about seven or eight lenses for them. I keep going back and forth on whether to sell off a few more gear. One thing's for sure, though. I don't need to acquire anything else right now, just enjoy playing with the toys I've already got.

Four K lenses, one K body, a couple TC's, a couple flashes with a transmitter, a light stand and umbrella, a tripod, two rangefinders, and a TLR. Except for the tripod and stands it all fits in a single filing cabinet drawer.

A giant camera bag is quite ungainly in the field but a great way to organize a large collection of gear at home.
It's also handy in the event your partner ever makes good on the threats to throw you out - just grab it and go!

Wait, are you guys saying cameras and lenses can not only be bought, but sold too?

Sounds implausible. Then we would have less gear!

Every camera and lens has its usefullness . Once I started collecting, downsizing to minimal is just difficult/impossible .
