No, I haven't really started on the M42 bodies yet and don't have any of the AP, K or S. My most recent one was an SB with a jammed shutter which will look just fine in the display case. That was what prompted me to post, since I really dislike the idea of turning rare(ish) cameras into craft projects. The are plenty of Zenits available for that sort of thing.

Just got it back today. It's worse now than when I sent it out. When I sent it, it would wind and fire. Now i's locked up solid. I'm not sure if I should pursue trying to get this fixed or not. Looks like I may have made a $250 mistake. Well, it came with the 55mm f2 preset so not a total loss I suppose.

I'm not up to making a set of curtains, nor am I inclined to disassemble the AP far enough to replace them.

I'm still hoping Eric can find a replacement spring for my black K which he has had for quite some time now. It wasn't a cheap buy, and I wanted it to use.

I'll let you have the part that you need from my parts body if he can use it.

Most repair people will have generic ribbons and blind material...

So then there must be some reason, other than the one he gave me, that Eric is unable, or unwilling to repair this AP?

Just speculating here, but I believe Eric might no longer have the energy (or some other reason) to do fabrications. I have 2 Asahiflexes, an AP, S, S2 and S3 (all working) in need of CLA. He has told me he’s backed up twice now - once for 2 months at the end of August, then ‘until January’ last week.

I sent the Asahiflexes. I don’t expect them back until February, at the earliest.

It turns out that all Canons with aperture priority will max out at 30 second so I explored all other brands and models and found that the LX was the only one that would keep it's shutter open for as long as it takes. Additionally, Pentax clearly based its design on the original AP.

With today's ultra wide latitude films, I really enjoy using this fully functional non metered camera!
LesDMes,your pictures of the EOS 3 so graphically illustrate why I have not gone down the route of getting a FF digital. IQ from MF film gear is better. 35mm film cameras are compact, in general. Crop sensor for me is fine for macro and telephoto and standard lenses, but when it comes to wide I go with film.

This also illustrates that working ‘50’s vintage Asahi cameras are getting harder to find.

If he is factory trained he won’t necessarily have ever made up shutters from generic bits. The guys at Harrow London ditto.

There was an announcement about this a while ago; it's here if anyone hasn't seen it:

So the camera is repairable, just not by Eric? Has anyone ever had a successful shutter curtain replacement performed on a K, an S, or an AP? if so, who does this work? I know there were previous recommendations of places who have done other makes but I'd like to know if there's another "Pentax specialist" that anyone could recommend.
