Update. I'm working on a new lead now for a shutter repair and restoration of the AP. I'll post back when I have more info.

So the camera is repairable, just not by Eric? Has anyone ever had a successful shutter curtain replacement performed on a K, an S, or an AP? if so, who does this work? I know there were previous recommendations of places who have done other makes but I'd like to know if there's another "Pentax specialist" that anyone could recommend.
Hi,

It must be some other reason for why Eric isn't replacing the curtain. He has just fixed an S: CLA + new shutter curtain, it is just now in shipment to me. He also did a K, but that didn't need a new curtain. In March he fabricated a new curtain to a Asahiflex.

I'm still hoping Eric can find a replacement spring for my black K which he has had for quite some time now. It wasn't a cheap buy, and I wanted it to use.

K.
Hey, I am sorry to hear. Do you know what exact spring he needs? Maybe I can source that part or get it from a K that I have sitting more or less as a parts camera now. Let me know.

I am also puzzled by this because he recently replaced a curtain on my K. I'm sending the AP off to another repair specialist tomorrow. Hopefully he will have good news for me and I'll have the AP back in working condition by Christmas. As an aside, I also sent a KX to Eric e few months ago with som,e inconsistency in the slow shutter speeds. It still has a problem in the slow speeds but I'm reluctant to send it back to him because if he didn't get it right the first time, maybe I should give someone else a try. I know that Eric warranties his work but as backed up as he is, I just wonder if things are getting missed.

Has anyone else experienced failed repairs or an inability to repair by Eric recently?

Well, I just got the bad news today from Eric that another classic is non-repairable. I'm really bummed about this. Earlier this year I got this news about my 1958 K, now it sits on the shelf, worthless. I thought about selling it on ebay as "not working" but I can't bring myself to sell it without full disclosure that it can't be repaired. Especially since it's likely that someone here would end up with it, wasting money on it as I did. I bought it thinking that a CLA would save it. I did try once to resell it on ebay but since I listed it as unrepairable, I never got a single bid so I just decided to keep it.

Today's news was even worse. This time it's an AP that is unrescuable. As with the K, it's in mint cosmetic condition. Anothe gorgeous classic in the junk box, never to have its film plane illuminated again.
A couple of years ago I bought a mint condition 1958 K model that was fresh from an Eric service. It worked for a while, but then it seemed that a ribbon let go as the curtain "went limp" on one side. Knowing that Eric is too busy, I didn't bother sending it back. Now, hearing your story, make me think I should accept it as a shelf queen (that has the potential of repair). In the meantime, the 1961 SV is a more usable camera from only 3 years later, and much the same family.

Speaking of springs, I need one for my MX. It's a small spring that maintains tension on a little lever that makes sure the slow speed escapement engages, visible when the baseplate is removed. Without the spring, the slowest speed on my MX is 1/30. I have a photo of it, but it's on another computer.
