Repair resources

Any of you who have read my thread "Another one bites the dust" already know that I have been trying to find an experienced and qualified repair person or business to get my AP back up and running. A member here has recommended someone who may be able to help and I am waiting now to hear back from him. When I visited the page for that repairman, there was mention of his retirement on his website; not by him, but concern by his customers that he may be considering retirement soon. I have also seen similar concern expressed right here in our forums over the eventual retirement of Eric. It seems that many of the best film camera specialists are probably in a similar place, approaching retirement.

With so many of us enjoying film and wanting to continue using our classic, vintage, and antique cameras, what are we to do when the last of the old-timers takes down his shingle? I think that it's time we start building a resource, a database if you will, of who is out there, what their experience and capabilities are, and how long they may remain in business. I know that the last part will be mostly speculation but if we know that an individual has 50 years experience and we assume that he began his training and career at age 20, we could guess that he might be about 70 years old and thinking about retirement soon.

Anyway, here is what I propose, post your experiences with any vintage camera repairs that you have had. I'm open to hearing about any vintage equipment really, including lenses, accessories, and various brands. Please just cut and paste the following into your response and then enter your replies. Also, if you can think of other info that would be helpful, please let me know. Thanks.

Equipment description:
What repair was done?
Who did you send it to for repair?
Why did you choose this repair person?
How long have they been in business?
What is their web address or contact info?
What were the repair costs?
Have they ever NOT been able to repair an item, and their reason why?

Camera Repair - PentaxForums.com

Here's the link to the discussion I started on the repair I had done to my LX and MG.

Unfortunately he's been in business since 1977, and while he still does camera repair, he says he's taking it easy and doesn't want to be overloaded. I take that as he's already in semi-retirement. He does CLA for the local camera shop on all used cameras that come in that they are going to re-sell already.

I do see it getting harder to find someone to repair our old cameras. I'm glad to see this started and maybe we can create a good database.

I propose moving this thread to our repairs forum and changing the title to "share your film SLR repair experience".

I would suggest a call to Advance Camera, ask for Paul. He's very good with Pentax film cameras, fixed many of mine along with some lenses.

I'm not in favor of this because this thread is specific to film SLRs and to be honest, I didn't even know that their was a specific forum just for repairs until about 90 seconds ago. I'm not sure how many other film only users would find the thread over there. This sub forum is the only one that I ever visit except for the very raer occasion that I have looked at the lens forum.

Probably quite a few, judging by how many film-specific repair shops we've compiled in this thread:
