The K1000 is one of the longest time manufactured film cameras ever. Production finished in late 90's (!). As far as I know, manufacture moved from Japan to China at some point and some units were produced in Hong-Kong too. I am not completely sure about this, but the use of plastics may be a sign (among others) of non-Japanese production.
Asahi started assembling K1000s in Hong Kong in 1978. They moved assembly to China in 1990 and continued until 1997. The Chinese made K1000s make extensive use of plastic and only weigh 525g...they made changes to the light meter in later years too. One of the main reasons production stopped in 1997 was the lack of precision analog micro galvanometers for the light meter...

And the "Made in Japan" version can be identified by the presence of the "KX bump" on the top plate to the left of the prism. I could be wrong on this but it's what I found online while researching for a K1000 purchase.

It's an indicator, but not 100% reliable. I have an 'Assembled in Hong Kong' K1000 from the 1980s that has the top plate bump. It's one of the aftermarket 'SE' K1000s with a split prism focusing screen and black diamond leatherette.

My other top bump K1000 is not engraved "Made in Japan" and lacks any stickers...

So the 2 lenses I bought finally showed up. The 45/2 has some internal dust, no biggie. The aperture is snappy, the exterior is a bit cruddy but should clean up.

The big lens is a Vivitar T-4 75-260mm F4.5 from the late 1960s. Being a 1960s zoom lens it probably isn't all that good, but it weighs enough I could probably use it as a boat anchor...

Is it about the size of an Adapt-a-matic 70-220mm lens?

Similar in size. It has a built-in hood and a tripod foot like the Adapt-a-matic and the minimum focus distance is the same.

Awesome lens. I bought my dad a KX four or five years ago and was just at his place tinkering with it last night. Such a damn fine camera.

Now that it's had all of this positive exposure and chatter here, I'll be curious to see how not so good a deal someone gets it for.

My rule of thumb for anything desirable on Goodwill is to take what it’s going for on eBay and add 15% 🙂

Basing this on M42 lenses that aren’t dinged (and that the one 24f3.5 K lens at $660 is an outlier), I’m going to guess about $120...

But I am terrible at this game 🙂
