First time seeing a 200m lens on shopgoodwill

Even though bubdles with a k1000, 50mm & 135mm (both FL that are usually abundant there), I really dont see that many 200mm prime lenses on there, especially in Kmount. Doen't look like a "Pentax" brand lens (only goes down to f22 not f32 like the K, M & A varients) and is a "macro" (focusing goes down to 1:4) which doesnt seem that bad.

There are 200/4s on there all the time. Both K-mount and M42. Lots of third party 200mm as well. I got an Asanuma 200/3.5 from shopgoodwill years ago. What you don't see a lot of is 300mm K-mount lenses. I missed out on a Sigma APO 300mm F4 for lack of $150

Looks like the urethane coating in the bag went bad and the outgassing affected they rubber/vinyl/leatherette parts.

You don't see many 85mm primes either.

I think I saw a 85mm f2 a few days ago - it went for over $100, but I did not followed it much.

Now, where are those 24mm legacies??

I guessing that might be a something to 200mm zoom, with macro function at the zoom end.

I have seen a handful of K/M/A series 200mm lenses on shopgoodwill over the years. M42 Takumar 200mms appear
more frequently. Keep your eyes open and one will appear...., just as soon as you stop looking.

The most commen prime lenses I've always see there are 28/2.8, 50/1.7-to-2, and 135's, and once in a long while I'll a actual macro lens (1:1-1:2) anda 200+ lenses or two (if so it's a digital lens), but not many. Zoom lens wise it's usually the 28-80/90/135 range & 70-210 range, and once in a while oddball range ones.

I think you're right - the FOCAL MC AUTO something around the nose is probably "Focal MC Auto Zoom".

I'm guessing it's an 80-200 f/4.5 Macro push-pull zoom - KMart (Focal) seems to have sold a lot of those. This one on eBay is about the same size, and has the same grip and markings:

Focal MC Auto Zoom 1:4.5 f=80-200mm Lens No. 88311871 | eBay

How much luck has everyone had with the Shop goodwill items? Ive made 9 purchases and am 0-9 on getting a usable item.
I was watching a "SMC Pentax-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited" I think it sold for around $350 AS-IS. You can perchase this item for $400-$450 on the web and get a little insight on what condition it is in. I've watched an assortment of other sought after items that bring a high price. Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? Everything is sold AS-IS and there is no way to check them out ahead of time. (Or is there, if you live close to the location listing the item can you go in and inspect before bidding?)
But damb I still can't keep from regularly checking them out😬

That FA 43 1.9 was attached to a special edition MZ-3, and both looked to be in unused condition. So that was arguably a good deal for the combination, unless one of them had a concealed problem.

Iím right there with you, though Iíve had a little better luck...

But it does seem that all the good stuff sells for premium prices, and the shipping is occasionally extortionate.

Lately, Iíve been using it as a museum, just looking at stuff...

But to the OP, the M42 200mm lenses are not uncommon, usually in lots with spotmatics, though they arenít as common as 135s or 80-200 zooms...

In K-mount, I see the 200 f4 a good bit...

Judging by the barrel, it seems to be a 135-200mm zoom, not a prime.

I've never bought anything on shopgoodwill. 99% of the stuff looks trashed with no real way to determine condition. For me, I don't play the lottery, and if I'm looking for a camera, lens, or anything else, I'm happy to pay market price to know that the item I want is in good usable condition and so I have recourse if it isn't.

Not a bad position to take.

Generally, I've had good luck with ShopGoodWill, with the vast majority of the items I get in working condition (Not in perfectly working condition, necessarily, but generally usable). Quite recently, I got a working ZX-M, in nearly pristine condition for less than $20.

I'm okay with a bit of a gamble, as long as I'm not over-extending my finances.
