NICE!!! Go Kodak!

Is this stuff available in the States yet? If so, I'm gonna have to try a roll!

Here's a bit more info:

KODAK PROFESSIONAL EKTAR 100 Film

In the Q/A section, there's mention of to be retired films:

QuoteQuote:
Does the announcement of EKTAR 100 Film impact any other films?
Yes. EKTAR 100 Film will replace KODAK PROFESSIONAL ULTRA COLOR Film / 100UC. And based on the superior performance and very positive response to our new PORTRA 400NC and VC Films, KODAK PROFESSIONAL ULTRA COLOR Film / 400UC will also be removed from the portfolio by year end 2008.

Very interesting reading.

Whoohoo!

This means I don't have to be so conservative with my stash of Royal Gold!

I think Kodak's just replacing 100UC with Ektar, and 400UC with Portra 400VC. So that's two films they're removing, not five.

This is great news. I read about it earlier and it blessed me...
I am more excited about this than the Sigma 70-200 APO I will be ordering tomorrow.

It is very good news. I figured we'd hit the stage where the film manufacturers had decided that we'd reached a stage where there was no point in releasing new films, as everyone was meant to be converting to digital anyway. I can't wait until it hits my shores in, oh, twelve or eighteen months' time.

(Also a bloody good reason why I need another film camera - one high speed, one low.)

Well, I used as 100 ISO film only ProFoto 100 from Kodak and Reala 100 from Fuji. Both give excellent colours (a little saturated be nothing exagerated) especially for the skin. As mentioned this Ektar and UC Kodak film series give saturated colours but not using them I don't know how they behave regarding skin colours.

Hmm, does anybody know whether this will be available as 120 or 220 too or only as 35mm? I'd imagine that this would be great for landscapes with my Pentax 6x7.

Best regards,

Kodak only mentions 36 exposure 135 size. I'd love the 120 as well.

When I googled the name, there were many large-format photogs who were eager to use it - I suppose the high saturation would be great for landscapes (and cheaper to process than E-6.)

It seems a bit of an oversight on Kodak's part to not have medium- and large-format sizes. Most of the people who still shoot film, I reckon, would be MF and LF shooters (I don't wanna guess how much a 5x4" CMOS sensor would cost!)

Oh, my thing about a 5x4" CMOS wasn't me implying that you were unclear in your thread title.

I was just saying that LF shooters still use film, and will continue to do so for a good while yet.
