SMC 18-55 and a k1000, possible?

I guess the title say it all, I have a SMC 18-55 mm kit lens that came with my k100d super, that is just forgotten in a corner since I bought the 17-70 from sigma. Since I may become the happy owner of a pentax k1000 I was wondering if I coulg get the two working together?
Thanks in advance

Paz

Yes, an 18-55 will mount on a K-1000. Just expect vignetting at certain zoom lengths, and a lack of total control of the aperature.

On a K1000 the da 18-55 will meter wide open, and then stop down when the shutter is pressed. I expect it stops down all the way, but I am not sure.

It will also vignette very bady at 18mm.

Don't let this stop you from getting the K1000, as there are allot of cheap lenses that will work with the K1000. Just not the DA lenses.

How about a DA40?

Okay... how about a DA 40?

I just bought one on the forums for nearly what the on line shops want for an M40. Should I expect the same sort of cut out effect as the 18-55 example posted above?

Regards,

you wont be able to use any DA lens properly as it has no aperture ring. but you don't have to actually take any photos and waste film frames to find out what vignettes and what doesn't just go through the focal lengths looking through the viewfinder and you will see the vignetting in the viewfinder. I can see the vignette at 18mm with the kit lens on my MX.

Exactly right. That was the only image I ever shot with the lens as I did not want to waste film. That picture was not a waste by the way as it has served me well many times as this question keeps coming up

If you had one of the Program bodies, or the AF film ones, the DA's work well in at least Program, and Av if the body can set aperture.

I've used the 16-45 and the DA 70 with both a Program Plus and a ZX-10 with great results. The 16-45 if anything takes to film better than digital, IQ wise, and vignetting starts wider than 21mm (and I like the vignetting). The DA 70 does not vignette on film (and I undersand the 40 doesn't either) but is a little bit more difficult on film than on digital - the images tend to look 'busy', almost over sharpened if you can visualize that... I have it with me today on the KX, so I'll be shooting the last frames on the film wide open.
