Today's find. A stone cold MINT Nikon FM. It seriously could pass for new.

Took delivery of 18 more today...

The "highlights"

1960s vintage Diana. The film expired in 1969...

I bought the lot for this camera, a bit rough but it works...

Not a top of the line P&S but it has a 35mm F/3.5 triplet.

The cameras that say "you have a serious problem"...

The Disc 4000 was my first camera, this one has a broken film door latch just like that one...

Top of the line Disc in 1985...

The worst camera Nikon ever made?

One step above a single use camera...(There was a single use camera in the lot as well)

These two are exactly the same except the name and the color...and now I have three of them...

I didn't even bother taking photos of the pocket Instamatics...

Hmm....I need to not pay any attention to all of the cool point and shooters. I need to avoid branching out at all costs!!

Here's the results of today's scavenging.

Installed batteries, and they all work. Basically, I'm into them for $20 plus the batteries I had in my drawer. They came with some other junk, flash units, filters, polarizers, TeleExtenders, and some sort of .45x wide angle lens thing that screws onto lens filter threads.

I'm not sure about the EOS Elan II or the N65, but I think I'm going to like the N90S.

Enjoy it while it lasts. ( I don't think the early autofocus cameras will last nearly as long as their predecessors. )

That's a cute little flash.

So far so good. But it could croak tomorrow, and I wouldn't cry about it.

I currently own only one AF SLR body. It is a pro model that has stood the test of time.
IMO most of the consumer models from all brands are bound to disappoint or even fail.

I sold some of my film cameras and got new ones =)

At the moment I have:

Medium format: Rolleiflex Tessar 3.5 , Mamiya 645, Zeiss Super Ikonta 521/16, Takane Mine Six

35mm compacts: Olympus 35 RC, Yashica Electro 35CC, Zeiss Contessa

35mm SLR: Canon EOS 5

All the other ones were given to a friend who is a camera repairman. I'm trying to keep film stuff to a minimum.
During the last years I gave perhaps 3/4 of my cameras.

I have the model after the Elan II (which I think is the EOS 50), the EOS 30, and it's very nice. I'd certainly give it a try. I read somewhere that the AF is actually better in the 50 than in the newer 30.

The N90S is supposed to be pretty good too, the model before the well-regarded (apart from the rear latch) F100.

I think the F100 has an issue with a plastic film advance gear breaking. For such a good camera, I can't figure out why Nikon cheaped out on that gear.

For me, the Canon Elan-II family was maybe the most reliable autofocus film camera ever made. To be honest, all the EOS range is extremely reliable.

I have two friends, both long date camera technicians and I asked them about this and they agreed abut this.

Most of the Nikon / Pentax / Minolta cameras from this era are very dead now.

Recently I disassembled two former top-of-the-line Minoltas, 700 and 800, both electronic systems failed.
Same happened to a Nikon F100, and a Contax AX
