I love my MZ-S. It’s my favorite of my “automatic” cameras. It’s fairly compact, feels nice in the hand, and can be shot like a manual camera (aperture ring and shutter dial). It’s permanently in “hyper program” mode, which Pentax came up with on previous cameras. That means that it defaults to program, but then adjusting a setting takes it off automatic. It works mostly seamlessly meaning you don’t need to choose a mode—PSAM, just adjust the shutter if you want manual shutter, dial the aperture off of A if you want manual aperture. It works quite well.

I enjoy shooting with the MZ-S, too for the same reasons posted above by 'abruzzi'.
Since buying one in 2016, the MZ-S has become my 'go to' camera for our vacations.

When we go on Holiday I take a Pentax film camera, a Pentax digital camera, and one set of lenses to use on both cameras.
I shoot only film 1st day, then only digital the next day, and alternate back & forth until the end of the vacation or until I run out of film

Here are some snapshots out of my MZ-S :

The two cameras I usually take:
MZ-S
K-1

The lenses I take:
SMC-A 15mm
FA* 24mm
FA 31mm Ltd
FA 77mm Ltd
F* 300mm

An update from my side. I now have the following working Pentaxes: LX, MZ7, MZM, MZ50 and Z10. Also a broken K1000 and MX. And a broken Chinon. The LX and MZ7 were bought new. The others were bought over the last year or so because they were cheap and came with useful lenses.

I have 3: ME, MZ-5n, and MZ-6. The last 2 have brass mirror motor gear.

Gotcha !

Finally - after a long time of waiting I managed to bag a Nikon F with FTN finder and lens. I had to do a lot off walking and talking in Tokyo and found camera prices there are for the most part pretty steep I got this one for what I considered a fair price rather than a bargain but oh my - she is beautiful.

A '64' plate Nikon F with a working Photomic FTN finder, the 'F' viewing screen (no split prism just grid lines) and a near immaculate 1.4 lens - not to mention an original minty Nikon skylight.

For me thats it - camera collection done - now I am spending cash on CLAs to make sure that all stay running plus funding the extras like original lenses.

Very pretty. The only Nikon I lust after is the F3.

I bought an early (non-HP) one, and while a very nice camera, it isn’t as epic as I hoped.

While this may be sacrilege, I think I’d be happier with a FG (which I’ve owned before and really liked) or a FA, and a few more lenses.

Though the F3 feels tiny next to the K1, and I remember when it felt huge...

Les....thats a lovely set of Niks you have there.

Eric....thats heresy with the FG and the cult of Nikkor will demand a charge of high treason seriously I love the F301 perhaps the least loved Nikon of them all.

I thought the F301/F501 (N2000/N2020 in the US) were better in a lot of ways than the F401 (4004 in the US). The -s variant of that was finally decent, but the original had a lot of operability issues.
A choice between the F401 and a Pentax SF-10? Give me the SF-10...

But I always thought the EM was the 'horrible' one. I always wondered who would bother with that...

I loved my old Nikon F Photomic FTn; I used it all through college.
It was old even then, but you could still get mercury batteries.

When it was stolen I never replaced it, opting instead for the then-new FM2n.
Eventually I sold it along with all my other Nikon gear and started with Pentax.

Much later when I got the Nikon bug again I bought an F2 Photomic (DP-1).
The professional Nikon I had only dreamt of owning was now affordable.
All F2 metered models use 1.5V silver cells. Recently I added an F2SB (DP-3).

The F2 DP-11 and DP-12 finders are more convenient to use with AI Nikkors.
I prefer the older non-AI Photomic finders; they have better readouts.
Indexing lenses takes but a few seconds and becomes second nature.

I skipped the F3. The LCD readout has no scale, like several well-known Pentax models.
Recently I added a Nikon F4, now also affordable, mainly for use with manual focus lenses.

Don't worry folks; I still have far more Pentax gear than any other brand...

Thanks!

Although I do prefer the cleaner look of the meterless F and F2 . . .
