I've seen the MX data back like this one, but never for the older screw mount bodies.Could the whole back be removed and fit on a
later K mount body?

The size of the backs are different, so even if you could dismount them I don't think they would fit. Especially the MX/ME are very different from earlier M42 Spotmatic cameras.

Sorry,I should have said the K series bodies,i.e K1000 KM etc.. I know it wouldn't work on the MX/Me. Not a common item for the Spotmatic though.

Quite possible, considering how similar the Spotmatics and K1000s are.

Question...which of those had a data back? The K2DMD might have.

The link you provided in the original post is part of your answer. There were short runs of Spotmatic bodies capable of data impression.

The K2DMD certainly did have a data back. I could have bought one with my copy, but I opted for the motor drive instead.

I think the data back for K2DMD is the only one for the K-series. It was called Data MD, and it imprinted an image of a clock. There is a special blind you slide to mask out a bit of the film, the dial is operated from the base of the K2DMD.

MX had Data MX and Dial Data MX.
