Buying Film in Canada

wanna try out some Tri-X 400, Velvia 50 and some the Fuji or Kodak 160 / 400 films.
where's the best place to get it? B&H / Adorama have great prices, but minimum shipping is $30!

I made my last film purchase from Freestyle Photographic Supplies. I don't know if they have a minimum order requirement but mine was under $100 and didn't get nailed with any border fees.

Buying Velvia is easy - now I have to try and find a domestic lab to process it!

There's a photo supply place near Yonge and Wellesley that I hear great things about -- I've been meaning to check it out for a while now. Just a few doors west of Yonge on one of Breadalbane, Grosvenor, or Grenville. I know that doesn't help much, but if you drive south on Yonge or are on foot, you won't miss it.

Using the on-line shopping feature I think you can get a shipping quote with your order prior to actually ordering. If not, just call them toll free and they will give you all the information you need.

Reviewing my previous order I see I had 15 rolls of film, some batteries, a Domke strap and some 120 film holders. It came to almost $90 and the shipping from California was $24.

I hope this helps.

US film prices are lower but international shipping might eat up any potential savings.
FWIW the B&H Photo website says they can ship to Canada via regular mail (USPS).

Chris
Just wanted to clarify that Freestyle also ships via USPS.

Why not Aden, Henrys or Downtown Camera?

I buy now most of my film (stocked) from Silvanos, but the above are fine as they all refrigerate the pro stuff which is what they're suppose to do.

Too bad you couldn't find a fellow film shooter in the GTA that wanted to jump in on the order. Splitting the shipping costs would even be better.

Do you know of a lab in Toronto that processes E-6? Where I am in N. Ont the local store sez they have to ship all E-6 film to the US.

I think cost is the main motivator here.

$6.19 US Vs. $14.99 CAN for the same product.

I don't see any Fuji Velvia RVP 100 - 36 on their list of films; maybe I missed something. The OP said he was looking for Velvia in his first post so that is what I was using for comparison. I agree that prices for Fuji negative film wouldn't make the US ordering worthwhile, unless you wanted quite a few rolls. But for some unexplained reason Velvia is horrendously expensive in Canada.

I see they E-6 process and mount a 36 roll for $10.99; that's decent!

yeah cost is the motivator, B&H sells Fuji 400H for about $5 a roll whereas here it's more like $10

For E6, I use Browns Photographic Imaging in Mississauga. Not sure if they do mail-order, but it might be worth a call. Local drop-off gets me consistent, reliable, and friendly 3-hour turnaround on my slides.
