I think it would be cool if Pentax did launch a new film camera... but I certainly wouldn't want it to have the bulk, weight and cost of the K1.
But I would buy a modern film camera.... it could be a good idea for Pentax's 100th anniversary.

Maybe Pentax could sell a new camera with these features and with the form factor of the MX (or LX) in a limited 2000 instance only worldwide. It hardly be profitable although. Only with a very high price tag.

I can see a rationale, in a few years time, if film is still available, of doing a production run a cosmetically special edition of the K1000, perhaps, to give film people a new body and tap into the nostalgia market. but any sort of hybrid doesn't make sense - anybody who shoots film now would only do through no choice (larger formats) or because the like the fully hands on decision making nature of the process.- I don't think there'd even be a market for a new AF/AE film camera.

My vote is no. Nowadays if I want to stoot film it's easy and affordable to shoot MF gaining much better IQ than 35 mm film.

An updated MZ-S would also do. Uncrippled mount with KAF4 compatibility. However, the tools surely dont exist anymore. It's a pity...

As others have pointed out, film these days is more about taking your time, and for me, medium format is much more desirable than 35mm. Although I'd welcome a new Pentax film SLR, I doubt I'd buy one. My Z-1 is about the best AF SLR you could wish for (perhaps remove the PZ features to add SDM etc.), the only extra features I'd prefer would be a Li-ion battery and a weatherproof magnesium body. Interest in a new film SLR would be low and therefore cost would be very expensive.

Another 'No' vote that didn't vote because your No option is misleading. I shoot probably 70% film 30% digital, but I'd have zero interest in a 35mm K-1. A big part of why I shoot is film is access to the wonderful, mechanical and manual bodies. Give me a cloth focal-plane shutter, manual exposure, manual focus and manual advance any day. If I wanted a fancy-pants auto-everything I'd buy a MZS...

If I were to buy a brand new film body it would be something along the lines of the Leica M-A.

To be fair, there are no many options when it comes to new 35 mil. One is Nikon F6, others are Leica M-A and MP and if one wishes to own manual and mechanical item, Nikon is off the board.
