The other thing you forgot was that you are not allowed to look at the results for 3 days
Either that or you have to drive into town, wait for an hour while you get a coffee and then drive home if you want to look the same day.

Oh great, a K1000 with menus. I'd sooner take up watercolors.

You can cheat and sit in the parking lot holding the cardboard frames by the edges, pointed towards the light.

Not in the UK. One hour labs in town for negatives but E6 had to be posted. Though having said that, you could always spend a couple of hours in the darkroom if it was E6.

From the article :
QuoteQuote:
reports of poor build quality and badly thought out design details.
  • The camera doesn’t even turn on
That's a pretty badly thought out "design detail"

QuoteQuote:
  • Removing the lens cover caused the lens to separate from the camera body
Build quality doesn't get much worse than that.

Seems to me that many of these Kickstarter schemes are just pig-in-a-poke scams. I wonder how they acquired the Yashica name.

To be fair, Kickstarter projects are a lottery and their lucky to be receiving anything at all - that's the gamble. My only surprise is that nobody else doing 'retro' cameras has tried a 'digital' film canister idea...

I am unaware of any Kickstarter campaigns, but the idea of a drop-in digital sensor for film cameras has been floated several times in the last decade. The continuing problem is that of event capture, i.e. things like shutter action and ready state.

Ah, no, not that idea, but the Yashica one where you have a fake canister to set the film speed & characteristics, but in a proper camera. Leica in particular are trying to emulate the usage of their film cameras, you even have to take the whole bottom plate off to insert the battery - won't be long before they have.a digital M without a light meter.

Back to the topic in hand - something strange is definitely happening to K1000 prices. I've just had a look on eBay and the lowest prices seem to be over £150 with many over £200 (with a 50/2). It's not just overly hopeful BIN prices either, some are selling at these prices. Spotmatics look to be up as well compared with the last time I looked.

Interesting discussion point, but what does this have to do with K1000 prices?

You forgot :-
  • No self timer
  • Slow light meter reaction

But can't nearly all that be done with existing DSLR settings, a legacy manual lens, and a bit of self-discipline?
True, but is that good enough for what the instructor is looking to do? I am not sure how much you should have to worry about "cheating" in that case, and I am not sure just how good is "good enough" for their purposes (I teach for a living, but not photography).
