Great news for those with intact light seals!

Apparently faux light leaks are a thing:

(I don't have this problem )

And here I use to strive for perfection. A camera with no light leaks and film with no grain. What was I thinking?

It's been a thing for a long time, using a plastic shopping bag works about as well. Sometimes it looks good, usually not.

Lens modifiers/filters like drinking glasses, transparent/translucent plastics, fabrics and so forth are generally free or on hand and can be fun to play with, so why not.

I think I should register the term "free-backing" before it becomes a regular practice...

On the other hand simply shoot with a digital and process this in during post process - its a lot more reliable.

Cant see the point in trying to get this in from scratch on a digital at all - with film it makes sense but with digital

With people spending over the odds on eBay on busted lenses to get bokeh it does make me wonder whether the next trend will drive prices for Vaseline up to get that nice soft focus effect. By the way if any hipsters out there want a bag of old Cokin filters with lots of scratches to give that 'authentic' 1970s amateur feel please hit me up and you can have them for £300 I'll even chuck in an expired Polaroid Black and White film pack so you can get that 'didn't quite get the film separated quickly enough so now its got black blobs all over it' look.

I pioneered that trend many years ago...
