LX vs MX shutter button

hello everyone,

i bought a LX last year and discovered that if there is any pressure on the winder arm (where my thumb is usually under), the shutter will not depress. Normally when i hold a camera i have my index finger on the shutter and my thumb under the winder lever, usually with some amount of pressure on the winder, ready to advance the film right after i click the shutter. Over the last couple decades i have gotten comfortable shooting this way with every other camera i own. I am now looking at the MX, as i like it's size and manual operation. can anyone tell me if the MX behaves the same way?

thank you

The MX doesn’t behave like that and the LX shouldn’t behave like that. I hold all my Pentax’s the way you describe without issue.

I agree, something's up. It should work fine like that. (One reason I prefer cameras with a shutter lock.)

This ^ ^ ^

I have a shelf full of film SLR of various brands and none behave in that manner without severe provocation.

thank you for your responses. i suspected that it was a malfunction. i had the camera cla'd, as it had a sticky mirror when i bought it, and it came back working like this. i asked the camera tech and he said that the shutter was designed to work like that. i may try another repair service or live with the LX as it is and pick up a MX.
