They have been killing off product lines and now they plan raising prices by a silly amount. I can see them out of the film market completely in 5-10 years.

As film use declines, any remaining manufactures see the bottom line falling and will start shutting down production lines and raising prices on the remaining products being produced - law of supply & demand.

I just popped $1/sheet for a quantity of well-outdated 4x5 Kodak Kodalith film (not made anymore) which shows that some of this stuff is becoming a collectible commodity (I'm not collecting - I actually use the stuff). I expect this to be the case with 35mm film in the close future, though manufactures like Kodak keep coming through (e.g., Ektachrome line brought back to life) for us.

Anyway, won't miss Fujifilm that much - always a Kodak fan when it comes to film.

They're not getting the percentage returns on investment … so going premium … scale back production, distribution, jack up the prices, get less volume but more ROI, keep the board happy.

Meh...

This sucks for the film consumer market generally, but frankly it's been a long time since I've been able to justify paying a premium to buy Fuji products over the Kodak/Ilford equivalents...

Fuji lost the plot a few years back when they had the market cornered on slide film. Instead of taking advantage of Kodak being temporarily out of the "positive" picture, they deleted numerous slide films and raised the price on the others.

Now that Kodak is back in the slide film business with their excellent E100, Fuji's market sales probably went down.

Never a big fan of Fuji anyways, a Kodak shooter since day one...

Ugh. Just when I started falling in love with 400H. Already started stocking up. After that, it's back to Portra 400.

I thought the law of supply and demand stated that prices rise with scarcity of supply and fall when demand is sparse. Raising prices when demand is low is counter-intuitive unless one is poised to dominate a boutique market with products of unusual quality and desirability and where competition is light to non-existent.

I view this action as an effort to determine what the market will bear for their offerings. Film photography may be heading toward being a boutique market, but Fuji's offerings to such have become increasingly thin and failure to be price competitive does not bode well for their success. My expectations are that sales (and revenue) will fall for their Pro line of C-41 films as well as their transparency films. It is hard to say what will happen with the consumer lines and disposable cameras.

Not sure on how long, but I have stock piled their new E100 so I'm good for a year or so...

I prefer Ilford and Kodak but I do miss Neopan 400 and 1600.

I liked Fuji films however my favourite was Acros and that's already gone. Have occasionally had fun with Fuji slide stuff, not too fussed otherwise. And I guess a price hike is better than more discontinuation.
