Hello,

Finally ran a roll of film thru it. Mailing it now to Dwayne's for processing. I should have the results in a little over a week.

Thanks,
Thanks for keeping us updated on this, can't wait to see it!

Lens came up great. I have been working on an old Minolta recently that was in a similar state. Wish I could see pics of your camera but they seem to have vanished.

Hello,

Interesting: I went back to check post#23 where the pictures are. Only 1 showed up. I refreshed the page and most of them showed up. A third refresh and all came up. Not sure what is going on here.

Thanks,

Hello,

The results are in! We have a winner!

Just got my negatives back from Dwayne's. This was an old Walgreens 800 roll expired about 5 years ago. But I keep my film stash in the fridge in a black bag.

What a better way to test a classic camera than in a classic car show with my father who is a classic in himself?
Unfortunately, the show was a wash as it was not raining: It was pouring torrentially! We saw countless cars making a U turn in front of the show and going home.

Untouched scans from the negatives:

My father with one of his favorites of the show

Can't resist. I'm a Corvette guy

And to finish the roll, my favorite tree in bloom: Flamboyan

So, we have a winner despite the hot shoe not working.
The camera and the lens are seeing the light again!
Thank you for accompanying me in this journey! It was a lot of fun!
What do you think?

Thanks,

WOW

What a incredible job! I just got today my first pentax camera, same model as yours , it was a bargain. Something around 3 USD. The mirror is broken but the shutter works fine. The meter seems accurate and there's no light leaks from the back. I will fix the mirror and get it working.
But i have a question. Mine has some minor white spots on the courtain. Yours have more then mine, but i wonder, when you shine a flashlight through the mirror into the courtain, does yours leak too? Cause mine kinda leak on these white spots
and Im afraid i will waste a film roll if i dont fix it. Thanks!

What did you use to clean/polish the body?
It looks like it really worked...

Thanks,

Oi Lucas!

Thank you for your nice comments. Mine did not leak by the curtain, but I did not test with a strong flashlight. But at the end it worked fine. I have not tried it, but I have read about using a tiny little toothpick applied drop of silicone sealer on cloth shutters. Maybe that can help. If the problem is not that big, I would leave it alone but the only way to know is test with a roll.
Let us know how it goes!

O'brigado!

Hello Eric,

I use many different products on these projects, but most if not all are common household items. In this case I use 91% alcohol to clean the surface and followed with Blue Magic metal polisher. The same I use to polish car wheels.
The brassing damage I caused was using a polishing pad on the Dremel over a corroded spot.

Thanks!

Great job restoring your camera.
I just discovered this forum and looking forward to learning more on cleaning and using mine.

I really enjoyed your journey and seeing what is inside these cameras. I bought mine back in the mid 80's and put it away in the mid 90's and did not think about it until
last week. I've got it out and in the process of seeing what it needs to be used again. I even had some rolls of film that are expired by many years.

Thanks for taking the time make this thread.

Vince
