Super-A focus screen - what bodies have similar focus screen?

Hello,

I am a happy user of Pentax Super-A and I want to continue my journey with my camera.
The problem is the focusing screen is a bit dirty, and possibly someone tried to clean it but it didn't help.

I am trying to find a body with a good focusing screen and here is my question - what bodies use a similar focusing screen? I found few broken cameras (MX, ME) but can't be sure if that will solve my problem.

I appreciate any help here.

The A series of cameras did not have interchangeable screens. So if you do find a donor screen you will have to dismantle the camera to replace it.

My experience over the years tells me to stay away from trying to clean focus screens. Your current dirty one may well be because someone tried to clean it.

It does not impact the pictures, best to learn to live with it.

I can live with the fact that I will have to dismantle the camera.
The question is - who can be a donor?

I bought a pristine Super A that I knew needed CLA. It turned out that the focus screen was ruined by the previous owner and also needed replacing.

IIRC, the donor was an MX.

I had a defective P30 that was no use for it and I don't think there were many potential donors.

I have an option to buy MX, so that is a good news!

@Kevin
How hard it was to remove the focus screen from MX?

I don't know, I didn't do it. I had it done by Harrow Technical when they CLA'd mine. Sorry.

MX has interchangeable screens, so very easy.

It is user interchangeable, though it is unlikely to be a drop-in replacement for the screen on your Super A given that the two viewfinders have different coverage and magnification. Usually that translates to difference in size. If you buy the MX, its screen will likely have to be cut down and is likely worth as much as the body as a part.

As far as donor bodies are concerned, the best candidate would be another Super A/Super Program. Next in line might be a Program A/Program Plus or A3/A3000; all three have the same viewfinder spec. Here is a link to a page with several Super A service manuals and parts lists:

Good luck.

There should be a few broken Super-A or Super Programs around, a common fault is flaky electronics (possibly to do with the mode dial switch?). I have a broken Program A you could have for a small fee, depending where you are would determine how sensible/practical it would be to ship it.

This is the best option I think.

I don't remember a conversation on cutting the screen down so I may be wrong on the MX.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I m having connection problems at the moment.

Thanks for the links to the manuals. That will save me a lot of time!
