Bob, thanks for sharing. Any information that you can share about pitfalls like this, how to avoid problems by discharging capacitors first would be appreciated.

Any sources for Pentax parts--like for that mirror motor? I have an afflicted ZX-5n.

Thanks.

Yes, this is exactly that site I purchased the motor.

To avoid the problem with capacitors, you shall use a 2.2kilOhms resistor (1/2 or 1 watt), to be applied between the blue and green wires soldered on the edge of the flashboard (see my procedure). This shall be done before desoldering those wires, and controlled with voltmeter (end voltage shall be lower than 3 volts ; a fully charged capacitor reaches 250 Volts).

Bob Bimon,
Is it possible to place your zip-file again??
Winrar tells me its damaged and I am very curious because I have the same problem.
Winzip tells me: Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.

Thank you from The Netherlands

Hmm... doesn't seem damaged to me. Seems you're having trouble either with a corrupted download, or the file format. To try to cover both bases, I just did a PDF conversion and a (temporary) rehost. Try it from here:

Sluggo,
Thank you for your conversion to PDF.
I downloaded without any problems.
Now I can start.

Thanks,
Willy

Hi again everybody.

I confirm that my Zip file is OK and not corrupted.
Thanks to Sluggo for your helping for the community.

Good luck for Willy.

Hi Steve,
It's quite a hard job, I think I would not retry it again (quite a lot of hours), and as you red above, I killed the flash module. So the job must be perfect, and no error is permitted.

I am pretty sure Eric is able to do this, but don't be surprised if he tries to talk you out of it. Not only is it a complicated job, but these bodies aren't built to the mechanical standard that most of the other Pentaxes are, so it's probably hard to offer a warranty after the repair.

I should add though - if you have some aptitude and suitable tools, you have almost nothing to lose in trying the repair yourself, because if you screw it up, you might not have been able to get it done affordably by someone else anyway.

Bob's instructions helped me fix mine, and I didn't kill the flash module. Of course that might only be because mine is a ZX-M and has no flash module.
