Spotmatic with weird translucent "lens"

Hi All,

What the heck did I just buy?

Spotmatic with permanently affixed urethane(?) fake lens

It was listed as a "decorative" item.

Some kind of display unit?

TIA
Pat

It looks like someone may have tried to make a lamp/nightlight out of the camera?

Hopefully, you'll be able able to remove that urethane tumor and have a functioning camera!

I'm not sure what it is. But I would guess the chromatic aberrations are kinda severe.

You might be right. Either that, or it's an early experiment to emulate a coke-bottle bottom.

It's not even a Takumar!

In the past there was a fashion for clear plastic replicas of current cameras to be used for display purposes.
This looks like the lens from one of those which has been subjected to severe abuse.

Rotational scratches appear to indicate a desperate, sustained attempt to remove with slip-joint pliers.

Assuming it's hollow, a rotary tool with cutting disks might work better

Unlikely, judging by the condition, it's a well-used real body.

I believe the correct technical term for tools like those and vice-grip pliers is ****-up wrenches, since you have already done so or about to.

I actually think that body is in nicer condition than my Spotmatic F

The casting quality (or lack therof) resembles my early attempts to make toys using cheap latex mold compound and the resin meant for clear paperweights (spoiler: they aren't compatible - and the results stink, in more ways than one).
