Anyone ever received a camera back from repair with a note in it?

I recently picked up a small kit consisting of a Spotmatic SP, Tak lenses (50/1.4 (7-element), 35/3.5,and 70-150/4.5), a flash, and a right angle finder. Everything appears to be in nice shape except for one spot of fungus on the outside of the rear element on the Zoom, which cleaned up easily and seems to have left no permanent marks.

The reason for this post, though - has anyone sent out a camera for repair and gotten it back with a note written on the camera itself? This spotty has the note "JS 11-16-87 19096 every thing was messed up" written on the film back near where the take-up spool is. I love it!

Maybe is was sentimental for someone and worth the cost to repair? I've no idea, but it's nice to believe that it was well used and worth repairing.

I have seen similar notes with date and tech, but seldom with a comment.

It's pretty cool that in 1987, when they could have just as easily bought a new Super Program or even autofocus SF1, they went through the trouble of fixing a 20 year-old camera where "everything was messed up"...

I have to say not yet. I did get a camera back that I sent out for repair. It came back with an note, essentially it said we can't repair it as it is out of service now. No charge either but no solution as well.

I sent my Minolta X700 in for repair back in the 90s and it was returned with writing on the interior, too.

When I repaired the Spotmatic it lasted about a year. I took it back (Hey's used to have inspire technicians when they were one store). I'd replaced the shutter. The technician came out and said "The grooves the shutter runs in are worn and can't be replaced. The shutter is dying quickly because it's binding in the gloves. Putting another shutter is won't keep it functional for very long." So my comment would be, "lucky him". He had a camera worth repairing.
