You can buy replacement leather. Google search "camera leather". One of the companies in Japan says Japan Post isn't accepting parcels shipping to Sweden and many other countries.

If you like that paricular camera you can send it to Eric Hendrickson Home-Pentaxs for a complete inspection and cost estimate. There is no obligation - if you refuse the proposal he will send your camera back to you for free. Standard CLA (Clean, Lube, Adjust) is about $70 or less. New leatherette covers would be additional.

I would not agree they are a low price. In the UK the typical going rate is in the 100-250 bracket, probably 150-200 to ensure a good one. They are among the poorest value for money among vintage cameras. :-

As for the OP's problem, he needs to try another film in it before doing anything drastic, preferably processed byy a different lab. I think a hole in a curtain would lead to a sharper (ie more "focussed") effect. This almost looks like a hole in the cartridge outer case, or a poorly sealed lip on that cartridge. Or it was the lab's fault.

PS: Wow, I have just returned here and seen the pictures of this camera on Page 2! I had somehow jumped straight from Page 1 to 3 before and not seen Page 2. Lacking the leatherette is surely the problem, or at least there is no point in further experiment until that is sorted and eliminated.

When I have students making pinhole cameras, we find that just one layer of Gorilla or Duck or duct tape is not enough to make the camera opaque....and that is with relatively low light sensitive photographic paper (under ISO 25). So with XP2 which can be shot at ISO 1600 without pushing, you're definitely going to need more than a single layer of tape unless you're using a tape that claims to be opaque:

Opaque Black Tape | BLICK Art Materials

The light leak would be coming from the take up side of the camera; right front as you hold it; left if you're looking at the front of the camera. I would still tape any missing leatherette areas to keep out the elements.

Had just two layers of tape, silver. Gonna get black and put two more, luckily the issue seems to be solved now

Heres a crazy idea......why not just get a leatherette kit ? Will be cheaper than keep ruining film and testing with different tapes
