weirdest thing. first roll K1000

long time pentax/zenit user, got a "new" k1000 and the first roll went away.
but surprise, a few of the shots had a pretty weird thing in them. pretty sure it isnt a leak but im out of ideas. seals appear to be ok.
lens had no issues as I shoot on my K10d with it.

ideas?

thx for the help!

Were these shot with a tripod? (Long exposures?)

No, handheld with at least 1/125.

Maybe you should check the shutter curtain. The light leak could be caused by a small pinpoint hole.

Oh! Didnt thought of that. Next question is naturally, is it hard to replace of send it in and get it properly done?

Given the low cost of a K1000 I would think it would be cheaper to just buy a another used K1000.

There is a technique to lockup the mirror on a K1000 - a quick tap on the shutter button than doesn't press it all the way. You can then inspect the shutter curtain.

Can you see the defect on the negatives? You say it only appeared on some shots. Perhaps a development issue?

There are many other possibilities than a light-leak in the camera. Something could have gone wrong during the processing of the film (a light leak at some stage before the fixer has done its job) or the canister been exposed to radiation. The canister itself could have had a hole in it - although I don't recall that ever being a problem. Something could have gone wrong during the production of the film. One way to find out is to shoot another roll!

It could be a development issue, I saw the circle in a few but not all shots. Pretty weird!

I just looked at your Flickr shots. The artefact always seems to be in the same horizontal plane but sometimes a different vertical plane. Just out of interest, when you checked the shutter, did you check both curtains i.e. check it cocked and uncocked?

Might be worth putting another roll in it, maybe a cheap one, just to make sure it wasn't the developer doing something funky...
