Anyone seen this before

While looking for another Pentax as the electronics has died on my me-2 super, I came across this. It says ks2 from the Sears line of cameras. Takes Pentax k-mount lenses. Aperture priority with manual control it seems to have everything you would like. It's supposed to be like the Ricoh XR7

Sears brand from that vintage are RIcoh, good cameras
KMart and JC Penney also had screw and K-mount cameras but I think those were cosinas

That Sears 50 1.7 is a good lens as well.. from the looks of it, it might be the older Chinon-made 50 1.7, which is supposedly even a bit better than the Ricoh-made 50 1.7 - which I've had as a Sears branded lens, and it was a very, very sweet lens. I do miss it, should never have sold it...

The camera does have a Ricoh vibe to it.

I think the lens is a Sears-branded Ricoh. Minimum aperture is F16 on those. On the Chinons it's F22.

Sears and Ricoh had a close relationship from the late 1960s through the 1980s such that many Ricoh bodies and lenses were available as Sears-branded clones. The KS-2 is an XR7 with a Sears name. The Camera Wiki Web site has a table of Sears-branded cameras and their makers.

To the best of my knowledge, Ricoh did not make any models with interchangeable screens before the purchase of Pentax.

So is the modern day KS-2 actually a tip of the hat to that one?

It's Sears branded...This one is a Ricoh, 52mm filter thread and f16 min aperture. Sears also sold a rebranded Chinon CP-5 as the KSX-P, the kit 50/1.7 had a 49mm filter thread and a min apertutRe of f22.

That is a common misconception because it does say Sears on the lens, but Sears never made any lenses... (Sears is an american retail chain that at the time, as far as I know, did not own any factories overseas, much less optical factories, the lens was Made in Japan)

Some of the Sears and Ricoh normal lenses were made by Tomioka and are well regarded.

it's a fine camera....i have 2 but yet to run a roll.......batteries are a must as the shutter is electronic whether auto or manual.......it does have the 'judas window' for seeing aperture in the VF....not the easiest to see but present...also has dof preview lever....about the only things missing are 1/2000 speed & mirror up lock...(not that the me super has that)

the sears 50/f1.7 is a fine lens at least the copy i have is......and more than likely a ricoh/rikenon rebadge

If the KS-2 is the same as the Ricoh XR-7 then that's a good find. I think it's a good alternative to the ME Super but with conventional controls.

Here's an ad for it.

Full res version -> Ricoh XR7 ad

Unless there's something wrong with the viewfinder - or need a special screen, the one in the XR7 is very good.

Also, on the Butkus site, it does list the KS-2 same as the XR7 - Butkus XR7 manual
