"The Many Eyes of Pentax"

"The Many Eyes of Pentax" - Old Lens Brochure

I have uploaded images of a Pentax lens brochure of May 1981 into my webspace. Feel free to download if you are interested. It is mostly M-Series lenses with some K-Series. No A-Series yet.

It is an A2 size sheet folded into four, and the images are of the two whole sides (hence half the outer side is upside down but I'm sure you can cope ) . I have made the resolution enough to be readable if you expand it to full size.

I see it lists the almost mythical 35mm f/1.4 lens. Bojidar suggests maybe 5 were made.

Thanks for posting this.

Yeah and it's listed as a "compact" lens! The M35/1.4 is 1/3 bigger than the other M Series 35mm lenses.

Rare enough that they don't even have a photo of it on that beauty shot image.

At least, I couldn't spot it there.

From Bojidar Dimitrov's K-mount pages:

For a long time it was thought that this lens existed only as a prototype, and until this day I am not aware of any one in existence. There are rumors that there were about five lenses sold, and in March 2004, I have held in my hands the SMC PENTAX 1:1.4 35mm dedicated hood, complete with its packaging box. So now I am willing to believe that indeed very few examples of this lens were sold in 1980.

I remember the magazine ads they ran at the time, using that slogan.

Wow! I didn't know that the K 300/4 was so big compared to the M* 300/4.

It's a bit of a beast. I've had some lovely shots with it, but it's biggest weakness it doesn't have a tripod collar. It is such a heavy lens that I worry about the weight on the camera. I usually use a small extension tube to improve the close-focusing.

It would definitely need a tripod collar, then. I have the 200/2.5, and even that's slightly bigger than the M* 300, and quite a lot heavier. A tripod collar on that lens would be nice.

The tripod collar would be great, though I guess the intended use case 45 years ago was handheld for sports... but I wish it had one...

But it looks completely serious mounted on a K1... like you're about to shoot something important... because of that bulk...
